Slim Down Saturday - Jan 25th

Once again I am linking up with Gina over at Third Grade Tidbits this week to share my progress! As I've mentioned before, weight loss was always something that didn't come easy for me. I am about 5ft 7in, I have a pear shape to me, I've always been around 160lbs my young to adult life, and when I began Weight Watchers I was amazed that the scale read 183lbs. I don't look or really feel overweight, I would think...and I know that I'm not- but you can't help but feel that when the scale spits something back at you that is MUCH higher than you were thinking.

However, I do have to say that this program is something that works for me and I am excited to see the scale (finally!) dipping down. So, this week here is how I did...

Ultimate goal: My ultimate goal is to look fabulous in my wedding dress this June. It only takes one picture to make you motivated to get your butt moving and my wedding is the perfect motivator.

Gain/Loss for this week: I am a bit upset at this weigh-in because I knew that my eating habits this week wasn't the best and it shows. I weighed myself earlier this week at a wonderful 179.8 lbs (eeek!!) but of course by Saturday it seemed I gained it back. I've had my nephew visiting these past two weekends with all the snow days and of course we've been treating him while he's here. I just need to be A LOT better about staying within my points! Ugh.

Total since starting: My total loss so far has been -1.4 lbs. It's still weight lost but with gaining this pound I'll just have to work harder next week.

Positives from the week: In the same breath, one positive from the week and having all of these snow days is actually getting to the gym. While my nephew plays his xbox I'm able to get away and actually have the energy to get a good workout in. So, there's a plus!

Something to do better: Again, I would like to drink more water. It's easy during the school day to carry my water bottle around with me but these snow days make it easier to snack and I haven't been drinking as much water as I should be. Plus, water is a great filler and a habit that really helped keep my hunger in check. I need to take more sips between bites and overall just drink more water. I also need to keep healthier snacks around the house and not eat out as often even though we have company. It's so hard!!

Goal for next week: After this weekend and not making it to the gym, I've set the goal for myself to hit the gym at least 3x a week. My normal workout is mostly arms with about a mile of cardio to finish me off. So, my workout routine is not that intense so I should be able to make it work within my work week.

One word: The word I chose this week was disappointed only because I knew that having Chickfila once this week (and it's been forever!) would be ok as long as I continued my other routines such as water drinking and going to the gym. However, as tasty as it was it definitely used up all my points for the day and I couldn't recover. I learned a hard lesson in 'cheating' on my points and it hurt me this week. However, I'm determined to catch back up and see more losses this week coming up!

I encourage everyone who is either starting a new routine or have been making goals to live healthier the best week moving forward!! I also really encourage everyone to link up and share their gains/losses with others because it's the community that also gives us motivation when the scale doesn't pull through for us. We all make gains but we also have some weeks where we don't, but I love seeing how all the other amazing women are getting through and working towards their goals! So, thanks again Gina for hosting!!

Slim Down Saturday!

Thank you to Third Grade Tidbits for hosting this fantastic linky each week. It celebrates the fitness/health goals we all have and provides a place to share our experiences and progress! As I've mentioned before, I'm a first-timer to Weight Watchers and I decided to try it out to help gain the motivation to get in shape for my upcoming wedding in June. I've tried traditional diets and work out regimens in the past with no results! It became SUPER frustrating and I felt like I could never lose any weight no matter how hard I worked.

Well, WW has helped me with portion control and with making smart and healthy choices. I've been able to continue eating the foods I love and be more conscious about the kinds of foods (and how much) I eat. I was a little disappointed that I didn't see too much weight loss in the first couple weeks but sticking with it I'm now starting to see it and feel it in the clothes I wear. Yay!

So, for my third week here are my results:
Ultimate Goal: My main ultimate goal, and reason for joining WW, was really to motivate myself to tone my upper body for my strapless wedding dress. When trying on dresses I noticed a little pudge I wanted to work on so I knew it was time to hit the gym. However, I know that working out alone doesn't work- I have to change my diet too. But with being active and taking control of my portions I've been able to lose some weight in the process, which is a happy result!

Gain/Loss this week: Yay! This week I was able to see about a 1.6 lb loss! Working through my lunches most days forces me to pack light snacks throughout the day since I rarely get time to actually sit down and enjoy a meal. So, always packing my water bottle and having pre-made snacks handy have been a life saver! I've also begun making smoothies to take for my breakfast. It's an easy way to pack in fruits and veggies on the go!

Total since starting: I was a bit discouraged to not see as much of a loss but sticking with it I'm now starting to see slow progress. I'm in my third week of WW and I see that I've lost 2 lbs. To keep me motivated I think of a package of ground meat and think to myself "hey I lost 2 of those!" ;)

Positives from the week: Well, as I mentioned before, I was able to see a significant loss in weight. Even if its .2 or .6 of a pound- it's something. It's nice to know the work going into this is paying out somehow and I feel more confident in my clothes. I also was able to up some of the resistance in my arm workouts, which is amazing since I have zero upper-body strength.

Something to do better: I chose this week to do better in making time for workouts. After a long day the last thing I want to do is work out. Most nights I want a glass or few of wine, my PJs, and an episode of Mob Wives. BUT, I need to keep in mind that I'm seeing loss in weight BECAUSE I'm making the time to work out.

Goal for next week: The goal I chose for next week is to continue drinking more water throughout the day- especially on the weekends. But, as I was writing this it got me thinking that I should have chosen getting more sleep. It's important to get enough shut-eye so your body can recover from the day but with grading and the end of the quarter coming up...and just life in general...I haven't been getting the sleep I should.

One word: This week has been very exciting AND motivating. I've reached a place where I've seen progress and it pushes me to keep moving forward.

I look forward to reading about everyone else's progress this week and be sure to link up!!!

Five for Friday!

Iiiiiit'ssss Friiiiidaaaay! And that means it's time to link up with Doodle Bugs for their weekly linky! It's been quite the unusual week with all of our 'snow days' so although I don't have much to share from inside the classroom, I am happy to share some nice random stuff from this week! Be sure to link up!

1. SNOW DAY like snow days!

This has been quite the time for us up north since returning from our winter break. We returned to school Jan 2nd (which, I have to mention was unfair since most school districts didn't go back until Jan 6th!) but I can't complain too much since we were blessed with some snow that next day! Better yet...the temperatures dropped so much Sunday night that school was cancelled both Monday and Tuesday! Finally we were back in school on Wednesday but not before getting a 2-hour delay today for freezing rain. Not too shabby ;)

2. New Years Resolution
Each year I like to set at least one goal that I could envision completing by the years end but alas it never happens. However, this year is going to be a very exciting one for me since my wedding is in T-minus 6 months! This also means that I need to get my booty into shape and start 'sweating for the wedding'.
I've decided to join Weight Watchers for the first time and so far it's been really great! My fiance has been super supportive and has a lot of fun cooking the different recipes we've found. It also helps us plan out our week in terms of meals and in the end makes grocery shopping much easier...and cheaper!

3. Ancient China
I was able to dedicate some time to creating a bit this week and the other day I was able to share my Ancient China Student Workbook. Check it out...again, here!

4. New recipes
This week I've spent a lot of time at home and what else am I going to do...well, eat of course ;) With trying to keep up with my resolution, WW has wonderful recipes to choose from that are fun, healthy, and really tasty! One recipe that I was quite proud of myself for making was Goat Cheese Mini Tartletts with Spiced Apple-Apricot Compote. It was unbelievably easy to make and tasted soooo good! Plus, I got to use phyllo dough for the first time, which was fun ;)

5. Finding time to just be happy...
This is something that I try to remind myself each week and sometimes it's a little harder  some days than others. However, I think that this past week and with New Years I've begun to reevaluate what's going on in my life both personally and professionally. I am just very grateful for the love I have around me and simply couldn't be happier...to more happy days!!

Thanks for letting me ramble... ;)
