Surviving

Oh my goodness am I in love with second grade! Now, I'm completely exhausted at the end of my work days but it's totally worth it because I adore my new students and their parents. I wasn't quite sure what to expect on the first day of school but now that I'm gearing up for my third week I couldn't imagine myself in any other grade. The curriculum is fun and my students have such a great sense of humor, which is great because I'm probably the silliest teacher ever.

Apologies for not posting in so long...it's due to the typical 'beginning of the year' craziness. But now that I'm getting settled I'm excited to get back to creating more fun activities. Be looking back soon! :)

Va SOL Easy to Read Template

Hi there! As I am gearing up for the school year, I have been beginning to organize how I want my binders. Since I teach in Virginia, my curriculum is based on specific Standards of Learning (every state has mandated standards, which are typically the same according to a grade level) and so last night I decided to organize them in a way that is easy for me to read. I color coded each subject and strand so that I can easily find the standard I'm looking for when writing lesson plans.

Everyone is different and this template is just something that works for me. :)

Movin' on Up!

Hi blogger friends! I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported me last year with my previous blog, Keepin' Cool in Kindergarten. As you may have noticed, this year I will be teaching 2nd grade! I'm super excited but also a touch nervous since it's gonna be like starting my first year all over again...but I couldn't have asked for a better team and I know this year will be great.

I've been searching all over the internet and have found amazing 2nd grade blogs that have helped me prepare for the upcoming school year. I think it's great that there is a platform out there for teachers to share their ideas from all over! I hope to contribute what I can and that someone out there can find use for it :)

As summer is winding down, I'm doing my very best to prepare for the upcoming school year. As any teacher, I'm very excited to get my new room and begin working on it. With the brainchild that is Pinterest, I have so many influences and ideas for my classroom. I just HATE moving...and that's exactly what I'm going to have to do. Luckily, I was somewhat prepared to move to second grade so most of my things are packed separately. I'll be posting pictures soon of my new classroom!

How do you prepare for the new school year? And any tips for a new 2nd grade teacher?
